Research Proposal
Project Title: The Good and Bad Effects of Technological Advancement On Humanity.
Background Information
In the world today, our lives have become so involved and consumed by technology that it has altered the way we live, think, communicate, learn and see the world. During my research, I found that other scholars have approached this topic by discussing the pros and cons of modern research and the effects of the advancement of future technology. They also let the audience choose their own side to agree or disagree on without providing biased information. However, other researchers have chosen a side and build upon it to persuade the reader into agreeing with their view. In relation to that, my method of contriving my research is to provide unbiased information for the audience to ponder, while stating my side of the argument.
Of today’s modern technology, there are many convenient uses that really impacted our lives by making them more sustainable, easier to control or manage, creating effortless communication, considerable amounts of time saved, better security, greater agricultural production, faster transportation, disbursement of education, and vastly enhanced health care. Without these advancements, the world would not be as it is today, most likely resulting in more deaths due to the lack of medical technology, slower economy, harder and more strenuous way of sharing information and researching, like that of what I'm doing, starvation, and basically everything we use today.
On the other hand, the expeditious growth of technology has its downsides. With this fast development, we tend to become too reliant on these devices and apparatuses to do the work for us hence we become lazy or not well-equipped to do it ourselves. This can play a major role in humanity by causing us to be less fit in our bodies as well as, (even more so) in our brain’s plasticity, a term which here means your brain’s ability to learn and adapt which creates new neuronic connections that stimulates your brain to work and think smarter in everyday situations. In addition, we, especially young adults, have grown an excessive addiction to technology that have become somewhat serious. The obsession of social media and internet browsing have consumed the most time out of our days causing us to spend less time away from our families and friends, studies, and active behavior.
Research Question
To what extent is the rapid advancement of technology beneficial or detrimental to the human race?
